Sugar Free Feb-Mission Complete

I write this after demolishing a pain au chocolat. And why is that important? Because it’s March and I can eat processed sugar again! Woo!
On Feb 1st I embarked on a sugar free quest to raise money for Cancer Research UK- a charity very close to my heart after my gran’s battle with lung cancer. Thankfully she survived however many many others don’t which is why fundraising is important for scientists to carry out vital research.

Again I need to stress that by sugar free I mean processed sugar so natural sugars in fruit and vegetables are perfectly fine to eat. I have to say my first two weeks were a struggle which you can read about here. It was a shock to find out how many things contain hidden sugar. The biggest one of course was stock cubes…an essential ingredient in many of my ingredients. Sourcing a replacement was difficult but not impossible-many recipes were saved!

So any health benefits?

Well I have significantly more energy than I usually do. My skin is looking fabulous, even if I do say so myself. Oh and I’ve lost over half a stone in weight! Not going to lie I feel and look great! Yes that sounds rather up myself but why not have confidence in myself!?

So what now?

Today I am on an almighty sugar binge! Although it’s hardly midday and I am already feeling a bit sickly so I might need to calm down a little. I don’t want this month to be a waste so my plan now is to only have sugary snacks and treats at the weekend. Rather than cut them out completely. Also a man who works in my building who has been cutting down his sugar intake now for almost 8 years told me that when he reads the list of ingredients, if sugar is listed in the first few items then he won’t eat it. The list is written in order of quantity just in case you didn’t know. I plan to do this too to keep on feeling this good!

Was it worth it?

Hell yes! Not only do I feel better and have lost weight I have raised £105 so far for Cancer Research UK.

So proud! Just want to say thank you all for your support and words of encouragement.

  1. Congratulations on completing the challenge and raising a great amount for Cancer Research UK! I imagine that pain au chocolat tasted fantastic, but it's great that you are going to continue to cut down on processed sugar and that you have seen such great benefits from this last month without it.

  11. Well done you! It's harder when you stop, because you want to binge. It's better to eat in moderation rather than being too strict with yourself.

  14. Thank you! Oh my goodness I have been so ill since yesterday! I planned on having such a sugar binge but couldn't eat very much. My body seems to be rejecting the sugar, it's much more difficult than giving it up
