Craft Gin #4 February

Ever since the beginning of the year I have been looking forward to February-and not for the usual gushy reason that is Valentine’s Day. But for the Craft Gin Club to send me February’s gin box. So here it is!

February’s gin, Kalevala, comes far away from Finland courtesy of a magical still named Sampo. Distilled by the very talented distiller Moritz, Kalevala is named after a famous piece of Finnish literature. The Kalevala is a collection of around 50 musical poems depicting stories of love, loss and marriage-the perfect gin for this Valentine’s Day! Made using juniper, rosemary, mint, sea buckthorn, rosebud and raspberry leaves this gin has a lovely fresh, sweet and floral taste. The perfect serving for this gin is your preferred tonic, a twist of lime and garnish with some fresh cranberries.

What I received:
Full sized bottle of Kalevale Gin, 70cl

Luscombe Damascene Rose Bubbly

Swizzels Giant Love Hearts

Fisselier Liqueur de Vieletter

Lindt Excellence Dark Roasted Hazelnut chocolate

Ginned! Magazine

The extras in the box are quite exciting and I can’t wait to try them. The yummy love hearts and Lindt chocolate will of course need to wait until my Sugar Free February is over. Thankfully gin is naturally sugar free or else this month would be rather difficult. The violet liqueur is an interesting one and not something I have tried before. But paired with the Kalevala gin it should complement the floral notes perfectly-adding a measure of lemon juice will cut through that sweetness. The Rose bubbly is an amazing organic and all natural soft drink made in Devon. The family grow the apples and masterfully produce amazing sparkling soft drinks, crushed and a Devon apple cider. I can wait to add it to the gin and create a yummy gin fizz cocktail…and it contains no processed sugar so I don’t need to wait long.

Cocktails to try:

Ginger Tea-40ml Kalevala Gin, 2tbsp ginger syrup, 100ml strong tea, juice of half a lemon
Pink Paradise-40ml Kalevala Gin, juice from half a grapefruit, 1tsp honey
Kalevala Gin Negroni-40ml Kalevala Gin, 20ml Campari, 20ml Vermouth Rosso

I love this subscription box and if you would like to get it too please use the code GINPALS10 to claim a £10 joining discount. If you say I recommended you then I will also receive a £10 discount on my next gin box.
