I'm going SUGAR FREE for February

Put down the cakes! Ditch the chocolate! Pick up a penguin banana! It’s Sugar Free February and time to say goodbye to processed sugar.
Yes it’s another month where people give up something in the hopes of raising money for charity. You have probably heard of Dry January or Stoptober. I have given up alcohol before and found it too easy. Not to belittle anyone’s achievement I just don’t drink much during the week and at nights out I can have just as much fun sober. But no sugar? That is going to be tough!

For 4 full weeks I’ll be giving up everything that contains processed sugar and only eat foods that contain natural sugars. So no crisps, chocolate, sweets, white flour…believe me the list goes on. But why I hear you ask? To raise money for Cancer Research UK. This is a charity close to my heart as, like most people, I have known people touched by cancer. Thanks to the incredible research going on that person thankfully survived. Sadly though not everyone does. That’s why I want to help raise as much money so that one day everyone diagnosed will be cured.

Support comes in many forms so if you wish to donate to the cause then please visit my page here.

Oh and don't forget that 4th February is National Cancer Day to help raise funds and awareness for CRUK, you can purchase a unity band here.

Any words of wisdom and encouragement will be greatly appreciated. And if you happen to know any amazing sugar free baking recipes I would love to hear them!

  1. I have a unity band but don't think I could go totally sugar-free, so I take my hat off to you! There are some recipes here http://www.sugarfreemom.com/ and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/24/sugar-free-baking_n_1228591.html in case they're of any use.
All the very best with it, it's certainly for a great cause.x

    1. Thankfully I don't take sugar in my coffee but not being able to jump to the shop during work for a quick snack is going to prove difficult. I'm dreading the time when the headaches come but I am assured they will pass

  4. Great idea, I admire your commitment! My Gran died from complications of lukeameia (is that how you spell it?) and others in my family have met a similar fate with different variations of this terrible disease! If I hadn't been going for my regular smear tests (especially when they used to be offered to under 25s in Scotland), I would have developed cervical cancer by now... it definitely puts things in perspective! I'm looking forward to seeing how you're getting on, and further supporting you, when I get back from my honeymoon! :D

  15. I tend not to take part in these as I like to give money to more local charities plus many of them don't apply to me, changing anything. I hope you achieve your goal though and not only raise money but feel good too x

    1. Thank you! This is a charity close to my heart for many reasons but I agree for support is needed for smaller local charities

  27. I know it sounds daft, but honestly don't know how I could do this. Go you for doing it for such an amazing cause! Like you, I don't find dry January much of a challenge, but again I'm not a bigger drinker. I've only drank once since New Year's Eve. I tend to drink every couple of months as opposed to a few nights or over a weekend. Good luck with the challenge and look forward to hearing how you get on! x
