Merchant Square is one of my favourite places to go out for food and drink as it has that magical feel of al fresco dining but indoors hidden from the ‘not so’ beautiful Glasgow weather. The fact it is only a stone’s throw from work is just the icing on the cake. I love tapas purely because of the variety of foods available to try and Bar Mercado didn’t disappoint. I chose the Calamares (deep fried squid), Baravas (roast potatoes with spicy tomato sauce) and Pollo rebozado (chicken stripes with alioli). When it arrived the waitress asked if we were sharing the food, I might have answered with a rather abrupt NO. Completely accidental but I don’t share food very well…oops.
All the food was absolutely delicious! I don’t think I could fault it all. Elanor’s food looked so yummy too and she also couldn’t find anything she didn’t like. Maybe too much salad for her liking but all the more for me. The squid was perfectly cooked and those roast potatoes have to be the best I have had in such a long time! The batter on the chicken was so light and fluffy...my mouth is watering just thinking back on them.
All in all Bar Mercado is such great value for money! I would definitely go back.
